2. How do I split a bill using this tool?

1. Add a bill name (optional).
2. Add people or participants.
3. Add items, select who is involved in each, and enter portions or custom shares as needed.
4. Choose GST settings (None, Inclusive, or Exclusive), and set the GST rate if needed.
5. Click Split Bill to view each person's share, the subtotal, GST, any rounding, and the grand total.

3. How does GST work here?

• GST Inclusive: The item prices already include GST.
• GST Exclusive: GST is added on top of the item prices, distributed proportionally.
• You can exclude specific items from GST if they are exempt.
• The calculation is fully India-compliant.

4. Can I assign custom shares or use portions?

Yes! When adding an item, check each participant and enter their share (as an amount) or portion/weight (e.g., for food split: 2, 1.5, etc.). The tool will distribute the total amount proportionally by these numbers.

5. Will rounding cause errors?

No. The tool's rounding is mathematically perfect: any leftover paisa from rounding is distributed proportionally and, if needed, the last share is precisely adjusted so that the sum of all shares always exactly matches the displayed grand total. A note appears if rounding has been performed.

6. What does "Exclude from GST" mean for an item?

If checked, that item is not included in GST calculation and is split directly among selected participants.

7. How can I share my result?

• Copy a neatly formatted summary (text) for WhatsApp, Telegram, email, or SMS.
• Share a direct bill-edit link with your group (perfect for real-time reviewing or adjusting).
• Share the summary as an image-ready for posting or messaging apps.
• All sharing adds tracking parameters so you know how your group is using the tool.

8. What does the "Start New Split" (floating button) do?

Click the red floating "🔄" button to start a fresh split. It clears all names, items, GST settings, and results-ideal for reusing the tool for your next event.

10. Does this work offline or on my phone?

Yes! You can use the tool on desktop, tablet, or mobile-and install it as an app for offline use (PWA support). It works in all modern browsers.

11. Is my data safe, and do you store any bills?

No data is stored on any server. Everything is calculated on your device/browser. When you share a link, the bill data is encoded in the URL, not saved anywhere else. Read our Privacy Policy for more.

12. The sums don't seem to match-what's going on?

See the note under your results: due to per-person rounding, a minimal adjustment (like ₹0.01) is always applied to the last person to ensure total accuracy. If you modify participants or items, don't forget to click Split Bill again to recalculate.

13. How do I split expenses if someone paid more or less?

Use the portions/custom share option when adding items to reflect who should pay more (e.g., if someone consumed more or contributed more to an item).

14. What if I want to export the results or import a bill later?

- You can share/export the summary as text or image.
- You can save the share/edit link (which encodes all bill data). Open the link later to restore the same bill.

15. What happens if I reload/close the page?

Your bill is not stored unless you have generated and saved a link. Make sure to share or save the link if you need to revisit the same bill later.
